How not to deal with stress

02.20.2008 · Posted in Personal Updates

I’m under a huge amount of stress thanks to a life decision that will change everything for me and my family.

How’s that for an introductory sentence that grabs attention?

God willing and if the creeks don’t rise, I might actually be comfortable talking about it later. There’s one last “T” to cross though.

But, dealing with the stress – if you visit the site regularly, you may have noticed that the weight loss number hasn’t changed since late last week. That’s probably a good thing because I’m not putting weight back on, but it’s been a real struggle and I need to get past this decision to get back on track as fast as possible. I’m definitely an emotional eater, and when first faced with this possibility a few days ago, I literally got nauseous and started eating.

Oh yeah, it looks like my mother is going in for gallbladder surgery in the immediate future, and my father is having surgery in a month or so. So there’s that, too.

  • Great post, when I was moving house, I found that to be one of the most stressful times I had. I found that making sure I didnt lose sleep was very helpful, cos if your sleep deprived, that can simply increase the intensity of stress.

  • Might have come in a little later here but I have to say, sometimes taking a stress test can help you identify and come up with ways to manage stress so it doesn't affect your life or habits. Hope everything works out!
  • At least you haven't gained any weight. Hope your parents are doing well now. How is your weight now?
  • Stress symptoms include mental, social, and physical manifestations. These include exhaustion, loss of/increased appetite, headaches, crying, sleeplessness, and oversleeping. So try to avoid all those.
  • Its kind of a slippery slope, you eat too much because you are stressed out and you are stressed out because you eat too much. Kind of a catch 22, bummer, been there.

  • I hope that whatever is stressing you will become less and less of a stress in the coming weeks. I am not the kind that gets stressed very easily so I don't have any tips other than not worry too much about it. Good luck.
